General information about walking in the UK |
Walking in the UK - making the most of what's at home!
The Winster Cavers are great advocates of exploring the tremendous potential to walk, cave and enjoy other outdoor activities on our own

– the Yorkshire Dales and Moors, the White and Dark Peak regions of Derbyshire, Cumbria and the Lake District, the incredible variety of
landscapes within Wales, coastal paths from Cornwall to Northumberland, and some terrific mountains and valleys.
Then you've got the highlands of Scotland, the Western Isles, the emerald green hills of Northern Ireland, the... You get the picture - whilst
it's great to travel, sometimes there is a strong argument for staying a little
closer to home, and the UK really does have some super routes.

There are many guides to walking in the UK, both available to purchase in printed form and those that are freely accessible via the Internet, and the choice is bewildering.
Here on the Winster Cavers website, we thus aim not to produce walking guides as such for the UK, but publish these notes to share with you some of the walks we have undertaken and enjoyed.
We hope you will choose to share and enjoy some of them yourself.
