Indonesia volcano adventure video - Part 6 - Caving in South Malang

14 days volcano trekking in Java, Indonesia

In 2011 the Winster Cavers spent 14 days volcano trekking in Indonesia, starting at Anak Krakatau off of the West Coast of Java, and traversing the entire island to finish on Bali.

We've split the 50 minute film of the whole adventure into a series of short films, one for each volcano/cave we visited. Enjoy!

Part 6 - Caving in South Malang

The Yogyakarta and Malang areas of Central Java host a substantial area of cave bearing limestone. We were lucky enough to get the oppotunity to explore a seldom visited cave South of Malang, courtesy of the University of Yogyakarta Mountaineering Club.

Be warned though, that at the lowest point in the cave there was a serious build up of CO2 gas. The oxygen level was so low that our guide's carbide lamp would not stay lit, and breathing was extremely difficult. Thankfully we were not far from the exit, and we all vacated the cave unscathed!
