Indonesia volcano adventure Video - Part 7 - Gunung Semeru

14 days volcano trekking in Java, Indonesia

In 2011 the Winster Cavers spent 14 days volcano trekking in Indonesia, starting at Anak Krakatau off of the West Coast of Java, and traversing the entire island to finish on Bali.

We've split the 50 minute film of the whole adventure into a series of short films, one for each volcano/cave we visited. Enjoy!

Part 7 - Gunung Semeru

At 3,700m high, the mighty Gunung Semeru is Java's highest volcano. The two-day trek from Ranu Pani to the summit and back covers nearly 40km, and over 2000m of ascent - it's quite a strenuous climb, and many people do not make the final 500m up the ashy summit cone.

At the time of visiting, Semeru was producing periodic ash emissions approximately every 20 minutes. This was one of the major highlights of the trip.
