Lava caves of Sicily
The volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily, play host to several hundred lava tubes. The caves range from small cavities of minimal interest, to lava caves of over 1km in length. On our 2010 visit to Sicily, we made a special effort to visit, and photograph, some of the more accessible lava tubes. This photo gallery presents some of the results!

Grotta di Cassone

Heading in the opposite direction to the main tunnel of Grotta di Cassone, a short and very spidery boulder choke needs to be negotiated to access the sort section of passage beyond. Not one for arachnophobes, but very pretty seen in the light of a caver's headlamp. |
