Lava caves of Sicily
The volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily, play host to several hundred lava tubes. The caves range from small cavities of minimal interest, to lava caves of over 1km in length. On our 2010 visit to Sicily, we made a special effort to visit, and photograph, some of the more accessible lava tubes. This photo gallery presents some of the results!

This small lava cave was discovered by Davide and Alessandro Corsaro in 1985, and 'resdicovered' by Davide in 2010. The climb into the entrance requires care - the lava is very sharp. |
