    Cave Pearls

Formed as calcite rich water drips into their tiny nests, cave pearls must be amongst the most beautiful of all speleothems we could ever encounter - and are certainly a personal favourite of the Winster Cavers. These photographs were taken in caves, and mines throughout the UK - don't ask us where though, that's a secret!

A close-up shot of some pristine cave pearls, almost perfectly uniform in shape. Note how older pearls can be seen below the main ones, calcited to the cave floor. |
