Volcano trekking in Java, Indonesia
Images from our 2011 volcano trekking adventure across the Indonesian island of Java, visiting Anak Krakatau, Papandayan, the Dieng volcano complex, Gunung Merapi, Gunung Kelud, Gunung Mahameru (Semeru), Mount Bromo, and Kawah Ijen. All this with a day's caving in South Malang thrown in mid-itinerary for good measure!

Scouts on the summit of Mahameru

There appears to be a very strong Scout movement on Java, and the ambition of many is to make the pilgrimage (it's not just a climb) to the summit of Mahameru (Semeru). We couldn't resist taking this delightful shot of Scouts photographing each other at the summit. They were so proud of their achievement -and deservedly so. |
