Images from our 2011 volcano trekking adventure across the Indonesian island of Java, visiting Anak Krakatau, Papandayan, the Dieng volcano complex, Gunung Merapi, Gunung Kelud, Gunung Mahameru (Semeru), Mount Bromo, and Kawah Ijen. All this with a day's caving in South Malang thrown in mid-itinerary for good measure!

Anak Krakatau, the 'child of Krakatau', first appeared in 1928 and has been growing steadily ever since, erupting frequently and often with little warning. This is the first glimpse of it that travellers get as they approach by boat across the Sunda Strait. |
