Volcanic Eruptions - Mount Etna, Sicily
Mount Etna is one of Europes most active, and most accessible volcanoes. On average there is an eruption most years - sometimes a very brief episode, sometimes lasting a year or more, and on occasions very spectacular. The Winster Cavers have been lucky enough to witness several eruptions over the years, and we share with you here some of our photographs of eruptions on Mount Etna.

Fire fountain on Mount Etna - 2007

In 2007 there was a spectacular fire fountain from the "pit crater" on the South East crater of Mount Etna, Sicily. The eruption started as a Strombolian activity, befoe gaining momentum. This photo was taken from Monte Zoccolaro just as the fire fountain was starting. |
