Volcanic Eruptions - Mount Etna, Sicily
Mount Etna is one of Europes most active, and most accessible volcanoes. On average there is an eruption most years - sometimes a very brief episode, sometimes lasting a year or more, and on occasions very spectacular. The Winster Cavers have been lucky enough to witness several eruptions over the years, and we share with you here some of our photographs of eruptions on Mount Etna.

The Bottoniera Eruption, Mount Etna - 2008
The Bottoniera Eruption on Mount Etna, 2008 had the potential to be very dangerous for the unwary. Two of the main vents were sporadically explosive. There would be quiet periods of 20 minutes to 1/2 an hour, followed by a large explosion - such as the one captured here. |
